Follows Saloni, a resilient 10-year-old in North Bihar, India, as she defies societal norms to pursue her education.

MAN OF CINEMA
A beautiful movie about resilience, dedication and breaking societal norms
through hardships and hurdles of poverty, and regressive mindsets. There is common motion among people in villages that girls should not be educated and should be married off as like she is a burden, and see boys as the one who will make them proud. But we see here that saloni is the one who does all the household work, manual labour work then still goes to school everyday walking from her house in the forest. And we see boys who skip classes, wander around carefree, stealing fruits and wanting to create a facebook account. It just highlights how gender disparity and inequality starts from a very young age. This film also has some of the most beautiful frames ever captured in rural themed movies. It was so somber and full of warmness. For me the film did not work completely because the story was not moving at all. The film has so many long shots one after the other and some of them are also repetitive. At some point it feels like the story is going nowhere and the long shots start to overwhelm you completely. Maybe it was deliberate to show that life around there moves very slowly with the same routine everyday. And one has to push through rock to just have a normal day.
