Finding a good noir piece in India is so rare..
you have to keep rewatching the ones that you wish inspired more makers. I first watched this in 2018 when I was exploring the depths of tamil cinema.. and I remember being awestruck by the story beats.. the editing choices.. the cinematography masterclass.. and just the sheer fun I had watching this for the first time.
Now.. almost 7 years later, with much more exposure to world cinema.. I can still say that TK's Aaranya Kandam is one of its kind. In every way.. primarily because it is so rooted in the tamil movie grammer.. while also exploring a genre that is clearly pioneered by the west. Hope this happens more often.
