MAN OF CINEMA
"Balls Of Steel"
Any fucking action movie made in this world fails infront of
this. This is as violent as it can get for both, the fighter the bull.
This documentary captured the moments of matador Andres roca in the arena fighting the bull. There is no morala or ethical commentary about bull fighting, never explores the life of matador, or the history of bloodsport, it only showcases every detailed bit of work, precision, and passion that goes in this fight.
My heart was literally in my mouth watching it, the way it captured the intense moments of bull fighting, even watching through the screen i was scared to death. I just understood how this man is able to fight that bull all alone. In that moment of solitude he becomes someone else, someone who does not have fear in his eyes.
It's visually beautiful, disturbing, emotionally brutal and unnerving, and one could question is this entertainment or is this just human cruelty laid out in broad daylight. The best thing about the documentary is it does not take sides, neither does it influence you. It's merely an observational approach. It will either make you love the sport so much or hate it like anything.
Even though it's so hypnotizing, thrilling and intense to watch and cheer, personally i just can't ignore the fact that nearly 180,000 bulls get killed every year in bullfighting. One can argue cows/bulls gets slaughtered everyday for beef. That's natural behaviour i feel, we kill it to eat it. But the way bulls are killed here with so much torture infront of thousands of people and making into spectacle is what wrong with this thing. Even after killing it, they cut its ears and showed it to the crowd as a trophy.
