This sequel attempts to untangle the “beautiful mess” of the first film,
resulting in a project that is more focused but less wildly unpredictable. Its highlight is undoubtedly the climax, where ancient mages collide with a modern urban setting to deliver some truly inventive action sequences. The revelation of the connection between Mureuk and Lee Ahn adds emotional weight that was missing from the first half.
Although shorter than the original, the film still feels padded. New side characters, such as the blind swordsman, are intriguing in theory but contribute to an already overcrowded script that struggles to give each figure proper attention. Guard/Thunder, the breakout star of the first installment, is sidelined here, leaving a noticeable void in the film’s charisma.
Visually, the film is loud, impressive, and undeniably fun at its best moments. Yet it plays like a story that could have been condensed into a single, tight three‑hour epic rather than stretched into two uneven installments. On the whole, this second chapter leans too heavily on lore while losing sight of the core, making it feel more like an overstuffed expansion than a natural continuation.
