If a film can deliver an emotional and satisfying climax with a song, the
audience may probably forget all other flaws. That's how 'Athiradi' works. The first half was not satisfying for me. Basil Joseph's performance was really unbearable many times. The cringe max pro first half followed by a good second half.The second half is the real clash. Unfortunately the reason for the clash does not feel like a big one for me. Tovino Thomas' character could've been better written. Just a build-up, but not convincing. But still the second half is more engaging and real fun than the first half. The climax is the saviour of the film. Especially the 'Ammapputhappe' song placement and the emotional scenes. That is really good. It would've been much better if Tovino's character was explored more. Without the final 15 minutes, Athiradi would've ended flat.
But still, Athiradi is purely for a theater watch. A complete fun, action and emotional entertainer. I watched it in OTT, so that's also a reason why the film didn't connect with me. Overall a good watch.
