I seriously did not have any idea about what this film was about, I did not
even the trailer of these film. I just picked it because I love this genre, I love writing about it and I am so glad I picked this up. This one quietly got me. Of course this going to be a long read for you. The film opens with Siva fresh out of a breakup and honestly, that whole setup is just fun to watch. He is lazy, adrift, not particularly motivated, working as a bike taxi driver just to get by in Chennai. No dramatic monologues, no self-pity. Just a guy figuring things out. And somewhere across the city, Mithra is doing the same, having told her family she has a job when she hasn't quite gotten there yet. Two young people, new city, same struggles. That parallel is set up so subtly you almost don't notice it, but it is the very foundation of why these two make sense together. They meet through a bike ride. Simple. And from there, the friendship builds through conversations, small moments, shared frustrations about life. No grand gestures. No filmy coincidences. Just two people finding comfort in each other while chasing their own dreams. Watching Siva get his first client and then hearing that the client referred him to others is one of those quiet little moments that genuinely made me smile. It feels earned. What makes this romance stand out is that the film never judges how their relationship develops. Couple Friendly is one of the very few Telugu films to portray a live-in relationship with complete sensitivity, presenting it matter-of-factly without making it a scandal or something that needs justifying. That context adds so much meaning to certain scenes, especially the ones involving Mithra's family and the pressure they put on her. Santosh Sobhan is really good here, natural and understated. But honestly? The film belongs to Manasa Varanasi. Her performance is so confident and layered that every scene she is in just lifts. She’s the standout for me without question The film is full of beautiful small things. There are birds used as a quiet symbol of their togetherness and eventual distance, like one bird calling out for the other. But the bigger, more emotionally loaded symbol is the stars. Mithra has a habit of looking at the stars from the terrace, and this keeps coming back. By the time the film ends, that image of the stars carries a weight you won't fully appreciate until the closing moments. Then there is "Neeti Mullai," a song from Varsham, which is Mithra's ringtone. On first watch it feels like just a background detail. But the lyrics speak of someone who came into your life like sweet rain, made everything feel alive, and then quietly dissolved away. Once you know where the story goes with Mithra's character, that ringtone becomes quietly devastating. It is the kind of detail that rewards you on a rewatch. The film moves between past and present throughout, and it works really well. The present-day scenes are intentionally a little suspicious and full of quiet tension. You keep wondering what went wrong between these two people who seemed so right for each other. The cracks in the relationship are shown just as subtly as the romance was built, which is impressive. The film builds and breaks with the same gentle hand. This is where the film shifts tone in a way that genuinely caught me off guard. There is a moment involving Mithra's character that I was not expecting at all, and it lands hard precisely because the first half had me feeling so warm and comfortable. It is in that moment that you truly see how much Siva loves Mithra. The comedy scenes around Mithra's parents arriving are absolutely hilarious and are pure gold to watch, but right after that the film asks something heavier of you, and it delivers. The BGM in the second half deserves a special mention. The music throughout the film is restrained and perfectly timed, never loud, never trying to manufacture an emotion the scene hasn't earned. But in the second half, the background score quietly amplifies everything and it genuinely got to me. If I am being completely honest, the ending felt just a tiny bit rushed. Not in a way that ruins the film, but you do feel like this story could have breathed a little longer in its final moments. The film earns the ending it delivers, the message lands, it just deserved a few more minutes to sit with you properly. We have seen love stories set in big cities before. We have seen the early romance, the fights, the separation, the realisation. But what makes Couple Friendly feel different is the sincerity of its execution. It is not trying to be anything bigger than it is. Two ordinary people, a bustling city, and a relationship that feels genuinely true. Manasa Varanasi's performance alone is worth your time, and the whole film is worth your heart.
