Dhadak 2 written and directed by Shazia Iqbal with co writer Rahul, is a very
strong and hard hitting movie which makes you feel very uncomfortable with raw and unfiltered take on caste oppression and injustice. To even make this kinda movie in the present socio political scenario where everyone gets offended easily even when presented with facts and truth takes great guts and I'm happy that this film does without any sanitation or softening. It has a strong and bold voice.
It talks about about resistance against injustice, finding your voice to not settle or back down, owning your identity, fighting for love, feminism, oppression and various other important things. It is a remake of Pariyerum Perumal, a Tamil film.
The dialogues are brilliant and the direction of Shazia is just so so impactful making you just reflect and wonder about the state of casteism and partiality in our country.
There are so many traumatic events in the movie which just make you so uncomfortable and the images just don't leave your mind.
The exposition scenes are brilliantly directed. There are so many organically mass moments which make you want to stand up from you seat and clap. It's that bold and impactful
The music by Tanuj and the editing are good. Sylvester's cinematography is good as well.
Siddhanth Chaturvedi as Neelesh Ahirwar gives one of the best performances of this year. Sid is brilliant as a Dalit youth pursuing Law, to make a better life for his family, who is afraid to even say his surname because of the so many traumatic moments he's faced just because he is born into a particular caste.
The moments of absolute injustice and inhumane acts done to him, the fear, the vulnerability and then the fight and courage he shows to stand up for himself and to not back down is just clap worthy. Every cell in your body just wants to root for him and every act of disrespect towards him just boils your blood. The way he performs the interval scene just shatters your heart pieces and makes you want to console and hug him.
Triptii Dimri as Vidhi Bhardwaj is strong and wonderful in her role as a woman who questions everything and is progressive in a conservative and narrow minded brahmin family who just don't see the so called lower caste societies as humans.
No, it's not about targeting a particular caste, it's about the problem that few people who think that people belonging to a certain caste are filth and that they are elite. Triptii is such a wonderful actor and she stands strong in this role where she isn't afraid to go against the society for standing up for what's right and supporting the man she loves.
Vipin Sharma as Neelesh's dad just took me by surprise. It takes balls to play the role he did. It was small role but had such a great impact. Not many actors would even think of accepting a role like this.
Zakir Hussain as the college principal is great in his role, he has one of the strongest and beautiful scenes in the movie which he shares with Siddhant.
Saurabh Sachdeva as the self entitled purist who actually is a psychopath makes you hate him so much that you wanna kill him with your own hands.
Anubha Fatehpura, Saad, Priyank Tiwari and Harsh are solid in the supporting roles as well.

After ages, a Hindi film that has its own mind, voice and most importantly, a
spine. Pariyerum Perumal is a hard film to forget, but Dhadak 2 makes you forget it’s a remake
