MAN OF CINEMA
Sweet slice of life story which showcases a daily life of a normal household in
Bengaluru.
It's such a typical hindu household where you will see patriarchy screaming at your face so clearly. Where the mother suppressing her desires continues on managing the kids and house, still ends up getting blamed for all bad things that happen in the family. It's a portrait of a family where women always work in the kitchen and are never encouraged to live independently and follow their passion. It's a lived reality of mine, that's why i want to be more critical abt this. Film does not call out these stereotypical issues and does not revolt or resist or inspire. In fact it feels like makers want to say, this is how life is and it will go on like this. I did not like this.
One thing i really liked was the portrait of kids growing up in this household, how the kids learn every small thing from their elders. They are often told you are a boy, only girls cry, boys don't. Boys are encouraged more and given more affection than girls. Film also highlights abuse in school by teachers which was heavily normalised in that times. The film really gives me nostalgic vibes, as it is set in the 2000s.
