While suppressing her own desires and happiness, trying to survive not only a natural disaster but also emotional turmoil, caused by men around her. The ending isn't a victory, it's not a happy scene. The final quote and her state shows she has stuck forever in an island where there is no escape , no peace. it's a life sentence of stagnation. Fillm also uses island as metaphor to suggest that an island-like situation can exist between the couple even if they happen to live under the same roof. The feeling of loneliness and separation felt by the woman is similar to that of a person living on an island. If the external island was due to the construction of a dam, the internal isolation was caused by the insensitive attitude of the husband and his inability to appreciate the effort made by the wife to save the family.
