The previous film slowly built the romance between Enola and Tewkesbury, and this movie begins with their wedding preparations. The opening portions are well written, especially the way Sherlock's disappearance and the conspiracy are introduced. They create enough curiosity to keep us interested. However, once the investigation begins, the usual fun and excitement of Enola's detective work are missing. The mystery has some interesting ideas, but it never becomes as gripping as the earlier films. The screenplay also lacks the clever twists that made the first two movies so enjoyable. There are still a few good moments where Enola puts together clues in smart ways. One of the biggest highlights is Malta itself. The beautiful locations are captured wonderfully, giving the movie a fresh look compared to the previous films. The production design, costumes, and visuals are all impressive. I also liked how the story includes Malta's history under British rule. The themes of the British Empire and colonialism add some depth to the mystery and help the story move forward. Millie Bobby Brown delivers another strong performance, and the chemistry between Enola, Sherlock, and Tewkesbury remains enjoyable. Compared to the first two movies, I felt Enola Holmes 3 is less charming and doesn't reach the same quality. If you enjoyed the earlier movies, you may still have fun watching this one, but don't expect it to be better than its predecessors.
