MAN OF CINEMA
"Why is it that everything we desire is sinful?"
Story of two women under
patriarchy suppressed from their desires and burdened by the expectations and duty as ideal house wife, and exploited and shamed for their actions.
It's a beautiful nuanced film which talks about finding liberation and comfort within yourself and with a person whom you love, by rejecting stereotypes and taboos of society. It shows that women don't really need men for their pleasure and happiness, it's actually the reverse. It empowers women to choose an independent path and act on your desires, rather than scolding your fate for the situation you are stuck in where you face constant emotional and physical abuse, tormented to pieces, and used as machine or object.
The film also brilliantly highlights the rotten core of loveless marriages, sexual repression and superstitions that occur behind the closed doors. It is also one of the best queer stories ever told in indian cinema.
