"Three Steps Back from the Original" Gatta Kusthi 2 continues the story after
the events of the first film. Keerthi is now working and training for the national-level wrestling championship, while Veera has become a househusband who takes care of their home and their daughter, Mathi. However, one careless mistake by Veera puts Keerthi's wrestling career at risk, creating a major conflict within their family. The first Gatta Kusthi was a grounded rural commercial entertainer with a strong social message about equality, mutual respect, and supporting each other's dreams in marriage. That message made the film stand out. From the very beginning, the film relies heavily on sexist jokes, double-meaning dialogues, and comedy at the expense of its female characters. Meenu, the daughter's teacher played by Moksha, feels like a forced addition. Most of her scenes exist only for awkward comedy, objectification, and unnecessary sexualization. The Veera's character is portrayed as someone who repeatedly makes foolish decisions simply to move the plot forward. His innocence eventually turns into frustration because many of his actions feel unrealistic and forced. The comedy itself feels outdated. Much of it is built around old-fashioned "wife jokes," regressive gender stereotypes, and toxic masculinity presented as harmless humor. The final act doesn't help either. The courtroom climax feels overly dramatic and forced, with unnecessary cameos that add little impact. The fate of the villainous coach, are left unresolved, making the ending feel incomplete. In the end, Gatta Kusthi 2 promotes women empowerment and equality, but too many compromises weaken its message, making it a step back from the first film.
