MAN OF CINEMA
MAN OF CINEMA
another wildly metaphoric film of julia which shocks us with its themes and
with stunning cinematography. Raw is a kind of coming of age body horror which does not let you think its about a shy introvert girl who goes through changes physically and mentally when she enters into a surrounding which is alien to her. In reality that's what happens with us, how quickly we transform from an innocent kid to a person which is shaped by influences of people around us. From our eating habits to sexual life to new lifestyle everything changes in that phase, it brilliantly explores various hungers of youth. The difference is Julia takes that transformation as an idea and injects it with body horror which takes the hidden metaphor to the next level. It also shows how an obsession/addiction can lead to consequences which will never be in our control. And we see this escalating throughout the film till that last sequence. Also a great feminine story of woman power dynamics both in reality and in horror genre. In horror we see women as victim, but here she is in total control, dominant rather than afraid of their own desires. No matter how tabbo they are. Even though i am hardcore meat person, some scenes will still make you squirmish, disgusting and absolutely shocking. The way these scenes are captured in visuals is another feature of this film. It's just enough gore and disgust to make you uncomfortable, but it never goes overboard making it unwatchable. Raw will always be remembered for its shocking themes and cannibalism. But people who get the hidden metaphors will enjoy it even more.
