While watching Habeebi, I was actually confused whether it was a Tamil movie or
a Malayalam movie. It is listed as a Tamil film, but I never felt like I was watching a Tamil movie. The entire film gave me a Malayalam movie feel. Most of the cast also looked like Malayalam actors. Kasturi Raja, who plays the hero’s father, was one of the few familiar Tamil faces. The one good thing about the movie was the Muslim family and the Muslim community shown in the film. I liked the way they created the entire backdrop around their lifestyle and community. It felt different and interesting in the beginning. But after some time, it became repetitive and boring because the movie keeps showing the same Muslim-community setting again and again. The biggest problem is that there is hardly any proper story. I couldn’t understand what the movie was actually trying to say. The hero has two love interests, but neither of the relationships had good chemistry. The hero’s love portions didn’t work for me. I did like the hero’s brother’s character, especially the Dubai portion and the chemistry between the brother and his wife. That part was interesting. Apart from the Muslim family and community backdrop, I didn’t find much to like in the movie. The story and screenplay were very weak, and even the overall setting of the movie was confusing. Overall, the Muslim family and community backdrop was the only interesting part for me. Apart from that, there was no proper story or engaging screenplay. A disappointing and wasted movie for me.
