Hey Ram

An absolute masterpiece... Nhaa, it's a masterclass for literally every filmmaker. I'm not commenting on the technicalities of the movie, coz everything is just over perfect. Ram Saketh, an archaeologist, who is against the ideology of partition of India whose wife was raped and murdered by the mob during the Direct Action Day in India sets on a murder spree, to take revenge for his wife's death and he deems the muslims to be responsible for it, and he now wants to kill Mahatma Gandhi as he advocates peace towards muslims during the partition. On his amateurish killing journey, he meets a leader of a group, who's leading a group of Hindus during the riots against Muslims, since they both are hindus, Ram. This man, who is filled with rage and wants to avenge his dead wife and kill the people he deems responsible for, one year later, marries another woman due to family pressure. Now he is fully into the ideology of hating muslims and take revenge on Gandhi. But his present wife, Mythili and her family are followers of Gandhi. Through which he learns gandhi is coming to Calcutta and Ram sets on to kill him along with a mob. Later in the journey, Ram stumbles upon his Bestfriend Ajmad (played by SRK) and his family who are hiding from the Hindu mob trying to kill them, through a series of events Ram learns that it was both the communities who spread hatred equally ever since, and Gandhi was infact preaching love and non-violence during this. Guilty of his acts, he wants to confess his doings to Gandhi who had invited him on the walk to Pakistan as Ram saved Ajmed and his family from the Hindu mobs at that time. But Gandhi refuses to listen, that is when Gandhi is shot by Godse, Ram tries shoot Godse for this act, but is moved by seeing someone who was arrested for trying to stop Godse. After the death of Gandhi, there are riots on the streets saying that it was muslim who killed Gandhi, but it is revealed immediately that it infact was Hindu who did it, the country is in shock. Ram lives by the ideology of Gandhi from then on. Only to find himself hiding in a bunker, as. 83year old man in his death bed, as there are still Hindu-muslim riots taking place even after decades of independence. This is just a movie, it's a journey, a spiritual, political journey of a man going through hatred, love, revenge and finally salvation. The fact that this movie was heavily censored back in the day and literal riots took place to stop this movies release. And here we are, in 2025, the movie being still relevant. I'm one of those lucky ones who got his hands on the 4+ hours long directors cut, unlike the stupid uncensored 3hr cut available on internet. If you haven't watched this movie yet, as a movie lover, you haven't lived your life yet.
