Note - These are episode wise thoughts as one, so it may be a long read!
Netflix's "His and Hers" kicks off with a bang - and I mean literally a shocking opening that immediately grabs your attention. Right from the start, you get the sense that there's something dark lurking beneath the surface, especially with Anna. You can tell she's carrying something heavy from her past, something deeply personal. But here's the thing: she's sharp. Like, really sharp. The kind of woman who seems like she's always three steps ahead, and that intelligence becomes crucial as the story unfolds.
Once the characters are properly introduced, the show hits its stride. Then comes this brilliant twist early on that completely changes how you view everything - and suddenly you're wondering what it all means for these two people. It makes you think in ways that a straightforward thriller shouldn't.
What makes this show so addictive is that it constantly plays with your mind. You'll find yourself constantly questioning who you can trust. Is it him? Is it her? Is it both? Neither? The show keeps you guessing and switching your theories episode after episode. There are moments that feel absolutely wild and shocking—moments that make you go, "Okay, that's insane." But just when you think you've figured something out, the show pulls the rug from under you again.
The pacing is deliberate. Things build slowly, piece by piece, and with each episode the intensity ramps up. You find yourself constantly asking yourself questions, getting hints here and there, seeing connections start to form. It's a slow burn that keeps building momentum - the kind of show that forces you to keep watching because you need to know what's happening.
But beneath all the mystery and the "who did it?" questions, there's something genuinely moving at the core of this story. As the show progresses, you start to understand that these aren't just characters caught up in a plot - they're two people dealing with real, profound loss. Tessa Thompson is absolutely badass in her role; her attitude, her presence, the way she carries the weight of everything - it's electric.
The emotional moments hit hard. When the story finally lets you sit with what these characters have experienced, the performances are masterclass. You don't just understand their pain intellectually; you feel it. Other characters also add depth and layers to the story as things unfold, and the dynamics between everyone become more complex and interesting.
As you move through the episodes, flashbacks and pieces of the past start making sense. You begin to see connections. You get hints about what might actually be happening, but the show is clever - just because you think you know something doesn't mean you're right. Things happen faster than you expect, which makes you wonder: Is this it? Or is there more?
There's this constant tension between what you think is true and what might actually be true. The show keeps you on edge, makes you lean forward in your seat, makes you desperate to watch the next episode.
The show does take its time setting things up in almost every episode, and I get that pacing isn't for everyone. Some people might find those quieter moments frustrating or feel like things are moving too slowly. But honestly? Those moments matter. They're building the foundation for understanding Anna and Jack's relationship - and their relationship is really the heart of everything. It's complicated, it's layered, and it's impossible to fully understand until the very end. The slow burn isn't always easy, but it serves the story.
