Ikka (2026) is a courtroom drama where we see Sunny Paaji as a famous
undefeated lawyer who, against his principles, has to take on a desperate case, which he regrets and finds contradictory. Akshaye Khanna plays a rich, spoiled man accused of attempted murder, and the entire film revolves around defending him. Opposing him is Tilottoma Shome, the prosecution lawyer. The film's writing fails to be emotionally convinced. The film uses the courtroom drama template and attempts to invert the lawyer character to create layered storytelling, which it doesn't achieve. The film is stretched and could have ended at a certain point with a shorter runtime. There are strong performances, and if the film had ended at that point, its impact would have been much better. Since the case was in the High Court, they had money and power to challenge the High Court's verdict in a higher court. This conversation takes place between Tilottama and her husband inside the Taj Hotel, providing a sense of closure. The extended ending completely ruined the mood. The film is very contradictory; in an attempt to do too much, it lost its way. It was just about showing off Ikka's genius, how brilliant a lawyer he is with twists and turns. The film turned Sunny Paaji's aura and reputation into that of an opportunist. Despite its attempts to be clever with twists and layered storytelling, Ikka never fully earns its emotional or dramatic payoff. It has its moments, but the film ultimately loses sight of what made its premise compelling. If you're into courtroom dramas, it's worth a one-time watch with low expectations.
