MAN OF CINEMA
This has to be one of the greatest satires about corruption, abuse of power and
brilliant examination of the power of state and its authoritarianism. It criticizes the limitations of freedom and the abuse, and disects the institutional power of Individuals with a brilliant dark humor and stylistic approach, and it exposes that law exists only to protect itself, and the machinery of order becomes indistinguishable from the abuses it claims to prevent.
The film starts with a murder of a woman by a higher ranked police officer. Testing his authority and power, he does everything he can to lead the investigation to himself. Which creates one hell of a screenplay witnessing the psychotic nature of power, fetish, lust and greed of a man which is both amusing and tense.
Ennio Morricone’s score perfectly compliments the movie , this is one of those background music which you wont forget even after the movie, it just lingers in your head. It gives a sense of urgency and paranoia.
Gian Maria Volonte as the corrupt officer is
unnervingly charming and his performance drives this film, playing the inspector as both power hungry dog and unraveling paranoiac, and as animal with lust. It's one of the best anti-hero protagonists you will ever see.
