An amazing film fueled by award-worthy acting by Dhanush and exceptional score
and music with outstanding visuals.
First of all, this is my second Sekhar Kammula work. I have watched Fidaa a long time back in lockdown days and I remember loving the film until the foreign portions arrive. So after watching all the teasers, promos, songs bad trailers, i was 💯 sure this movie is gonna be a banger and oh boy how efficiently this film worked to me. Damn.
The writing of the film is so good. The dialogues are outstanding. Kudos to the writer. The direction was great. The screenplay was excellent but the intensity at some places could have been toned up a little. All the characters in the film was written exceptionally. The symbolism to Lord Shiva's beggar arc was exceptionally designed.
Coming to the acting performances, Rashmika Mandanna was outstanding as always. Nagarjuna was a surprise for me. I wasn't aware of what Nagarjuna could pull of if he was used correctly by the correct director. He killed it. Jim Sarbh was exceptional. He was top-notch. Bhagyaraj was unrecognizable. He was great for short role. Finally, there comes the acting legend Dhanush. D na was goated. I mean literally goated. Get that national award ready for the greatest. He lived as a beggar. It was very painful to watch. No other actor can do this role. Yeah I said it. Not even Kamal Haasan. Period. For all the trolls he got on social media after the audio launch speech, he literally shut down all of it by the masterclass of an acting. That dumpster sequences was mind-blowing. The character arcs of the films is a pure masterclass. Sekhar u freaking beauty!!!! The dubbing for Nag version could have been done better.
The emotional moments of the film weren't tear-shedding but worked very well. This film was very raw and hard to watch. The realism of the film is such a key factor to it.
The score and music by DSP was magnificent as always. Even though the song Poyiva Nanba was great, it was a hindrance to the film's realistic approach. It wasn't needed in the film. The comedy worked out well too.
The Cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy was marvellous. Each and every shot was splendid. The camera movements were fantastic especially in action sequences. The non-linear editing pattern was great. Yeah I understand that they really trimmed a 4 hr version to just 3 because of theatrical release. I would like to see the whole director's cut. Some editing choices felt a little bland.
Anyways, on the whole , this film is a must watch atleast just for Dhanush's mind-blowing performance. Peak D na. Peak Tollywood.
What Martin Scorsese said is absolutely true. People just come to chat and use phones in theatre. They don't even have patience for anything. Thank god i ain't like that.
