MAN OF CINEMA
A love that blossoms in fleeting moments of early sunshine and vapours into
thin air as the day stretches with a burden of expectations, greed and fear of tomorrow. A very hypnotic and melancholic story of longing for love even though they live in the same house as a couple. Maybe this is what capitalism does to you. You miss spending time with the person you love, even when you both live under the same roof. They both share a life but rarely the same hours. Both working in different shifts, the only moment they are together is the early morning when he sees her go for work, and the way that scene was captured was so damn romantic. There is not a single dialogue in the film, still you feel every bit of the world around these two characters. Maybe because you don't need any language to understand your loneliness and longing. I feel the silence has more social commentary than just an aesthetic tool. Here silence can be seen as oppression of the system on the laboring classes, who are too tired, too exhausted, too alienated to even speak and laugh together. You will often see the faces of these people frustrated with life, trying to lead a better life in order to live happily with their family, but do not get time to spend time with them. This film through visual storytelling shows the mundanity of life, alienation, stress and boredom brilliantly. The couple’s daily hardships are painfully repetitive, yet profoundly intimate and melancholic. The film does not use any genre troupes such as melodrama, comedy or tragedy. It just shows the life of everyday people as mechanical, invisible and ignored pieces of society. Its strength of keep going even though the world around you tries to fade you from memories of millions. After watching this one can ask , why experiencing small things such as love is a luxury, why are things not simple and easy? Why do we live truly in dreams and dream about a better future in reality? It's a story where hope and despair walk hand in hand leaving a gaping hole of emptiness trying to fill it with your desires.

Not A Cinephile
Labour of Love is one of those rare films that quietly takes you by surprise.
In an age dominated by dialogue-heavy storytelling, this movie stands out with its minimal use of
Rudrangshu Samanta
Shashank Kapoor
15 minutes worth of story / plot stretched out to 80 minutes just for the sake
of it also the storytelling in a way seemed very pretentious ( to me atleast )
