are critically acclaimed because of his unique style of filmmaking which is experimental in nature. But here the film neither had the great craft of filmmaking nor the content. One of the weakest films in his filmography. The more you watch the film, the more you feel like this is not a film, this is just a pilot take of porno and not even actual porno. I felt Gaspar did not understand the difference between love and lust. Whenever Murphy was talking about love, he was talking about sex. The film switched to sex scene whenever he talked about love. He literally came across as sex addict. He was not deprived of love, he was deprived of sex. There is also a scene where he says he was thinking from his dick and he fucked up everything. I thought that was gasper's inner voice when he finally realised what mess he has created in the name of art. If the film was titled addiction or SEX, then i would have understood where he is coming from. But this movie was nowhere near about love in any way. Just because he ends up with a girl because of unprotected sex is not living a loveless life, it's a consequence that you had because of your sex addiction. If he had pitched it as an ad film for showing consequences of unprotected sex then it would have been even better. The biggest problem of the movie is, it never achieves that emotional connectivity with the audience. We never really get interested in his life, or root for him to find a connection/love back in his life. Here what the director wanted to tell did not match with what he was showing. A perfect example of mishap of idea and its execution/presentation. Even the film also failed as erotic, gasper really overdoes the sex scenes and there is very little room for eroticism to grasp over the viewer's imagination. Because we were seeing unfiltered sex scenes which qualifies as porn. And porn is not erotic. The dialogues are written so badly, it feels very amateurish and idiotic. Lacks any real depth or emotional value which was needed. Just like writing and dialogues, acting is also lackluster and never makes an impact. Gasper Noe really thought he was making another film which would shock the audience, he did shock us, but with the sheer incapability of capturing erotic love drama with some value and depth.
