Maelstörm in itself, is a pretty convincing film which undertakes a story of
murder, guilt and existential crisis with a somber and dark tone. Films follows a woman who accidentally commit hit‐and‐run which killed a man. She starts getting hallucinated and a terrible smell of fish engulfs her car.
The way fish narrated the whole story felt like watching some David Lynch's film. Water, in film is metaphorical depiction of cleansing of soul.
Denis Villeneuve is truly a great artist but the film didn't made any such impression on me. I liked "August 32nd on earth" much more than this film. Still, it is a good film which includes existentialism at it's core theme.
