Marty Supreme is not the usual kinda biopic and the director josh safdie like
his uncut gems where there is a manic anxiety inducing intensity to the film and here that’s brought out by the character Marty Mauser played with an unbelievable intensity by Timothy Chalamet who brings the hustler quality to the lead character with so much aplomb. Whether it’s his “whatever it takes “ attitude to beat his Japanese compatriot who uses the sponge stuffed paddle instead of a completely wooden paddle, his relationship with his girlfriend and the pregnancy , him trying to upstage the pen businesses man Rockwell or his illicit relationship with his wife or the one involving losing the dog and then the domino’s effect of it makes sure that the film moves at breakneck speed and staying away from cliches of a usual underdog sports drama . Loved the score from Daniel Lopatin.Another loud thumping winner from A24. Will probably miss out on best picture but if Timothy doesn’t take the Oscar for best actor then I’ll riot !!
