first things first, pugh is a stellar actress.
the movie itself wasn't complicated but i need to look into the symbols. there's absolutely nothing unpredictable in the sense that all cults work the exact same way: by preying on the weakness of people and making them think they will belong to a community. the indoctrination is unsubtle and yet subtle because this is how it is irl, you don't notice it creeping in even when it's very obvious. so much to be said about white supremacy and how white feminism follows the same ideals. advice to people of color: if you see a horde of blonde people practicing trad customs in the middle of nowhere, RUN. i don't want white people talking about some 'savage race' bullshit ever again.
i cannot tell you if i liked the movie or not, i did think the themes were pretty nice and her acting was awesome but honestly, i'm just glad i get to cross this off my list after 7 years of saying i need to watch this movie. points also for the fact that i didn't have to squint to see what was going on.
