MAN OF CINEMA
From the Brains of Succession Creator Jesse Armstrong, Mountainhead largely
shows the promise of witty satirical take on World collapsing because of fake information and misuse of AI, and these 4 tech giants who rise to be saviours but were the reason of this destruction, but eventually fails to deliver that promise with lack of authenticity, writing and subtle dry humour which was needed.
I like the idea of the consequences of the world because of fake information, deepfake and AI. But this movie really exaggerates it and takes it over the top that at one point you won't buy it or believe it.
The humour of this movie is almost deliberately curated to be cringe comedy or mockumentary style, i think that ruins the movie totally. The reason succession was so successful because it was so embedded in the reality and the humor associated with it was very subtle and intellectually witty. Here that was not the case.
I understand the armstrong didn't really want to have the same treatment as his show, but in this situation it was needed, because the premise was topical, relevant and futuristic. The movie also ends abruptly without an actual resolution of the huge world ending crisis it endured. You never really feel that weight of the stake on the hand.
Film takes a big chunk of film runtime to warm-up, and you will be anticipating something big and crazy, but end up witnessing buffonary by all 4. But the performances were outstanding, especially Steve Carell and Rami Youssef.

critical inside look at the lives of the ultrarich. It is a slowburn with no characters you can
