Mulm is a quiet and unsettling psychological horror that slowly gets under your
skin.
The movie may remind some viewers of The Babadook, but with an interesting twist. Here the focus is on a father instead of a mother. The child has an imaginary friend while the mother is admitted in a psychiatric ward. This shift gives the story a different emotional weight.
The film is very slow and minimal. It is not very scary in a traditional sense but it creates discomfort through mood atmosphere and performances. The real strength of Mulm is its ending. It is very ambiguous and open to interpretation. You can choose a grounded realistic explanation or a supernatural one depending on how you see the story.
