MAN OF CINEMA
As plain as he looked from the outside, Lucas carried an ocean of emotions
which were only waiting to hit the shore with full speed.
An anxious closeted gay undercover officer whose daily routine is to trap and stop his fellow gay men from increasing sexual activity in public bathrooms.
The whole film comes across as a character study of gay character, whose life is so broken, and always lives in constant shame and anxiety, but finds a person who provides that comfort, only makes things worse in his life.
I love the way the film switches between digital and film formats, to go in and out of Lucas' childhood memories and trauma he experienced, those scenes come as flash whenever he is drowned in anxiety. Those visuals indicate how deeply broken and fragile he is from inside, and like a constant ticking time bomb waiting to explode, which actually happens in the climax. Which was another great sequence in the movie.
Tom Blyth performance is truly emotional and vulnerable, he is perfectly embedded himself in that character. Even Russell Tovey complimented him well.
Its engrossing, mundane, sexy queer drama which might feel personal for so many people, and also can trigger certain emotions and memories.
