PRADHAMA DRISHTIYA KUTTAKAR — PEAK SCREENPLAY.
PEAK FILMMAKING. PEAK MALAYALAM CINEMA.
I don’t know what it is about this film, but Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakar is an absolute WIN. The way Malayalam cinema is approaching filmmaking is nothing short of impeccable. Peak, peak, peak mastery in screenplay and storytelling. This is exactly how a crime thriller should unfold, and this film executes it beautifully.
The number of bonkers moments, the constant revelations, and that absolutely unpredictable climax had me going crazy. For once, I genuinely couldn’t predict where the film was heading. I felt like an absolute kid sitting in front of a brilliant crime thriller, completely at the mercy of its screenplay. And honestly, that feeling is priceless for someone who watches as many crime thrillers as I do.
Kudos to Parvathy and the entire cast and crew for delivering such a phenomenal experience. I genuinely regret not watching this film in theatres.
SPOILER ALERT!
That one shot of Prema’s face — that prima facie guilt — SOLD THE ENTIRE MOVIE TO ME. That moment alone was enough to make me appreciate the sheer brilliance of the filmmaking. The way the film uses expressions, silence, and seemingly ordinary, rooted elements to build its crime thriller narrative is absolutely phenomenal.
Yes, a few developments were predictable, but the way everything was orchestrated, layered, and eventually brought together was just bonkers. It is one thing to have a great story; it is an entirely different thing to execute it in a way that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. This film absolutely nails that experience.
I did wonder why Parthiv was brought in for such a short role, but honestly, that’s a minor nitpick in an otherwise thoroughly satisfying experience. I didn’t have any major problems with this film, and I can confidently say it’s going to stay close to my heart for a long, long time.
I watched Eko, and I was completely sold on that film and its atmosphere. But this one hits differently. There is something about the way this story unfolds that makes the entire experience so special. It leaves you thinking about the screenplay, the character motivations, and the sheer intelligence behind the storytelling.
People are calling it Drishyam on steroids, and I absolutely understand why. But for me, this film has something that makes it stand apart, something that resonated with me even more deeply.
I have always been a massive fan of Se7en — an absolute GOAT in the crime thriller genre — and David Fincher’s Zodiac is another film I hold in high regard. I love crime thrillers that trust their audience, build tension patiently, and refuse to reveal their cards too soon. And somehow, Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakar gave me that feeling in its own distinctly Malayalam, deeply rooted way.
Over the last decade, Malayalam cinema has turned me into an even bigger fan with its grounded stories, bold filmmaking choices, and confidence in storytelling. I have watched plenty of crime thrillers, but this one has found a special place in my heart.
MALAYALAM CINEMA, TAKE A BOW.
Keep telling these stories. Keep pushing the boundaries of Indian filmmaking. Keep experimenting with rooted narratives, layered characters, and screenplays that genuinely challenge the audience.
You don’t need unnecessary spectacle when you have a brilliant screenplay, conviction, and the courage to trust your story.
What a film. What a climax. What a phenomenal experience.
Undeniable. Unforgettable. An absolute winner.
