Project Hail Mary opens with one of the most fun and clever setups I have seen
in a long time. Ryan Gosling plays Dr Ryland Grace, a man who wakes up with no memory of who he is or why he is floating in space. Watching him piece together his own identity while three robots hover around him is genuinely funny and charming, and that is entirely because of Gosling. He brings this quiet warmth and natural comedy to every single scene that makes you instantly root for Grace. He does not feel like a movie hero. He feels like a real person, and that matters a lot for where the story goes. The film then moves between the present in space and flashbacks on Earth, and this is where it starts pulling you in emotionally. You slowly learn what Project Hail Mary actually is: a last-chance mission to figure out why a microorganism called the astrophage is literally feeding on the Sun and threatening all life on Earth. What makes the film so gripping is that the threat is not some explosion or monster. The tension comes entirely from real science, real problem-solving, and real biology. For a big blockbuster, that is genuinely rare and genuinely thrilling. The audience in my theatre was laughing at one moment and leaning forward with curiosity the next. I want to pause here just to say that this film is visually stunning. The spaceship, the deep space setting, the way everything is designed, it all feels tactile and real even when you know it cannot be. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, every frame feels considered. You will find yourself just staring at the screen thinking about how beautiful it all looks. Hats off to every single person who built this world. This is where the film becomes something truly special. Without giving too much away, Grace encounters something out in space, and what follows is one of the most joyful and emotional friendships I have seen on screen in years. Rocky is unlike any character in any film, and the way the two of them start to communicate, learn each other, and eventually understand each other is pure magic. There is a moment where Grace and Rocky realise they have been through the same things and are facing the same problems, and that shared understanding becomes the foundation of everything. Even a small throwaway joke between them, like a Meryl Streep pun that lands out of nowhere, works so well because by that point you genuinely believe two completely different beings have found their own language together. That is funny and beautiful at the same time. The second half of the film steps things up in a way I was not prepared for. The sound design especially deserves recognition here. There are sequences where the silence, the music, and the sound work together so perfectly that the cinema itself feels like part of the experience. This is a film built for the big screen and a loud sound system. Do not watch it on your phone. There is a moment where I just went completely quiet and I realised my eyes were wet and I had not even noticed it happen. What gives the film its emotional core is understanding why Grace and Rocky mean so much to each other. Grace did not choose this mission. He was sent on it in circumstances that are complicated, both a form of betrayal and a form of sacrifice, and the film does not let you feel only one way about it. What you do know is that out in the middle of the universe, completely alone, the only being who helped Grace, who stayed with him and cared about him, was Rocky. Not his own people. Rocky. And when you feel that, you understand every emotional beat that follows. There is a song that plays at a key moment in the film called We Are Going Home. Pay attention to when it plays and what is actually happening on screen. That small detail says everything about the kind of storytelling this film is doing. Project Hail Mary is hopeful, funny, emotional, and breathtaking to look at. It is the kind of film that reminds you why watching movies in a cinema with a full audience is still one of the best experiences life has to offer. Do yourself a favour and watch it on the biggest screen you can find. Loved it.

If this movie wasn't propelled by Ryan Gosling's face card and charm, it
wouldn't even escape Earth's gravity. Look, I get it; everyone has a rock-hard boner for Gosling. You

"Project Hail Mary" is a beautiful, moving story of hope and kindness layered
underneath the gorgeous Sci-Fi visual spectacle. As Rocky would say this was "Amaze, Amaze, Amaze".

Fully convinced Rocky is the most human "non-human character" ever.
Glad to know that some stories still do a good job at potraying what "humanity" is supposed to feel like. No
