MAN OF CINEMA
The act of just emotionally being there, for someone who needs it, is the act
of humanity that we don't see often. So many people in the world need that someone in their lives more than you realise.
And there is no better place than Japan to tell this story, and this story is not fiction, it's the real state of society. In japan many are very introverted, shy, and feel alienated, lonely and frustrated with their lives, it is one of the countries where people are dropping the idea of raising families and having kids because of the economic crisis and social conditions, but as human sometimes you need emotional support and they often seek company of other and hire people to be there as GF,BF, father or even just as friend to talk to and share, because even therapy help is stigmatized. This film explores the certain condition of people so brilliantly.
This film truly showcases life through the lens of connection, people, emotions, and memories. It’s simple, but really moving.
Brendan Fraser will truly captivate your hearts with his performance yet again after his performance in "The Whale". Here in this movie he plays the character of a struggling actor which resembles his career where he was out of the movie for many long years, so as a person he knows how it feels, how alienating that phase is, here in strange country among strange people providing emotional support to others, but he realises that he needed it as much as others. Because people who provide service are humans too and they also long for love and human connections. I am really enjoying this phase of Brendan Fraser's career where he is a middle-aged, out of shape white man who is single, compassionate for the world around him and doesn't mind serving as a punching bag for the people. It was a perfect casting for this movie.
There is no single thing to jibe about this movie, The vibes, the atmosphere, the way it looks, sounds, and characters - everything feels calm, meditative, and deeply emotional.
