I can maybe try and see why the hype around this movie was, but it didnt work
me.
That said - I am going to 'try' and break this down (from my own personal pov) as to why it worked for a section of the audience cause there has to be something that brought people to the theaters. The Hindi speaking audience had been starved for a good love story with good music, in a long while. Cause a good/great love story cannot work without good/great music. But more importantly is that normally for a movie to have an audience beyond the first weekend is for the families to come in. This movie had a very strong parent+child emotional chord that (i feel) brought in the family audience and made it watchable with the whole family together.
Also, i saw this on streaming and i think for a movie like this, to watch it in the theatre as a community viewing makes a BIG difference to the whole experience.
This has nothing to take away from the fact that the lead pair was definitely commendable and carried the movie on their shoulders along with Mohit Suri. Special call out to Alam Khan, i really loved him and enjoyed whenever he came on screen.
