certain things which are considered as shame or taboo in asian households. such as being queer, self love, living for yourself, loving a person no matter what age, having kids out of wedlock and more. Brilliantly shows the pressure of maintaining a certain standard which is imposed on you by cultural expectations. It's a film which perfectly depicts new age generation who are breaking out of these taboos and chains which are put up by old generation. The snappy dialogues , witty old chinese humour and a swooning love story with a poignant narrative about a mother and daughter coming to terms with each other, and their beautiful relationship was a highlight of the film. it’s the kind of rom-com we’ve all been yearning now, and revisiting it or watching it will do great for you. Another reason to watch this movie is for the splendid performance of Joan Chen, what a beautiful legend she is!
