"A Rumour and Fear Spread Faster than Wildfire " When you notice a film from
industry which was dead again after KGF 2 or Shetty Brothers films, now packing a houseful theatre for a film which did not have any big stars, no heroic action scenes, no mass masala and full of newcomers then you should understand that People of Karnataka were fed up of constant brainless action films and this one came as silent warm comfort breeze which just touched everyone's heart. A film that is based on basic elements of village life, its nature, the close knitted community, the quirky and eccentric characters and local traditions can tell a simple funny story , which actually happened in real life. The film oozes the aesthetic and feel of malayalam cinema and the kind of situational comedies you see there. I am not saying its inspired, i am saying that's what makes this film very special. Just like them this story tells a local story with grounded character and how comedy erupts from different situations. How a small rumour can consume the whole village and wrap them in fear and how they will get rid of it, which leads to comedy of errors and hilarious situations which just provides unstoppable laughing riot. and in the end it also serves an emotional story which does not feel that preachy and does it work perfectly providing a feel good comforting feeling. Film could have done better in emotional depth and the subplot of Ravi's love story, and Little less exploration of villagers constant drinking scenes and indulged more in-depth emotional scenes. I feel maybe it was kept to attract a mass audience, who were constantly whistling and shouting during drinking scenes. But the biggest takeaway is the performance of each singular characters which are so quirky, funny and can leave a long lasting effect through the unhinged comedy. The dialogues, the setups and buildup everything works brilliantly for a horror comedy. Even small elements which are so relevant to human nature and we experience in our daily life can lead to comedy in many ways, and that really works in this film. I don't know if it will work for people who are watching the dub or with subs, but if you understand the language and the essence it will put a larger effect on you. And one line for the Raj B Shetty cameo, man has such a wide range of acting. So effortlessly can pull off comedy or serious character with ease. If you are one of those people who are bored off from constant rehash of formulaic films, then watch this grounded yet hilarious horror comedy and support the regional small independent films.
