This film does exactly that, Through Tokue’s passion for making anko(Sweet bean), the film explores the idea of sharing, connection , compassion , acceptance, healing and living freely despite physical hardship and societal rejection. The film also highlights the struggles of marginalized communities. It handles these themes with sensitivity and provides empathetic perception on things. How small acts of kindness can profoundly impact a person’s life. Cinematography is so perfect in this movie, very well captures the nature and simplicity. You could feel the warmth and care in every frame of Sweet bean. Such a beautifully crafted film with lots of unspoken emotions that will still make you emotional.
