MAN OF CINEMA
" I want to live in a world where the sun shines"
Sweet Bean is a beautiful
film about food, human connection, and poetic simplicity. I truly believe food has the power to bring people together, because when you make food with so much love and at most care, and share it with people, it instantly forms a connection of joy and satisfaction which can overpower any pain in that moment.
This film does exactly that, Through Tokue’s passion for making anko(Sweet bean), the film explores the idea of sharing, connection , compassion , acceptance, healing and living freely despite physical hardship and societal rejection.
The film also highlights the struggles of marginalized communities. It handles these themes with sensitivity and provides empathetic perception on things. How small acts of kindness can profoundly impact a person’s life.
Cinematography is so perfect in this movie, very well captures the nature and simplicity. You could feel the warmth and care in every frame of Sweet bean. Such a beautifully crafted film with lots of unspoken emotions that will still make you emotional.
