MAN OF CINEMA
"After I killed my father, now I'm killing my mother."
One of the most disheartening and striking films I've seen about the crises of old age, where the older son carries their aged parents on their back to a remote mountain and abandons them to starve and die according to Japanese practice of ubasute. The film mixed with folklore , rural customs and the harsh way of life tells a captivating story that you can't take your eyes off of. It portrays human beings like beasts, drawing parallels between people & snakes, owls, insects through many scenes which are so bizarre and beautiful at the same time. It kind of tells just like animals, humans can go to any extent to survive, even if they had to sacrifice their loved ones.
