The Invite

2026 English MovieComedy Drama Romance
POWERED BYJustWatch

Joe and Angela's marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places.

MAN OF CINEMA
Seth Rogen surely knows how to deliver a comedy through the misery and
depravity of their own. It's such a well written screenplay, when i saw Rashida Jones is one of Co-Screenplay writers then it all makes sense. Even though it is adapted but still never disappoints you. There is just one hilarious scene after another which punches you hard in your gut with the rotting reality of marriages and dying love, but you will laugh at it so hard, because you will relate to it completely. You really have to compliment Olivia Wilde's direction here. The way she shoots Angela and Joe’s apartment makes the apartment itself its own character. Some of the shots with minimal space still give a great effect because of the use of the lighting and the blocking, all of it is done with care. Every performance in the film is simply brilliant, All four characters bring something so unique and intriguing through their characters and acting. But everyone will absolutely love Seth Rogen, the funniest I’ve ever seen Rogen tbh. His line delivery & his facial expressions were unforgettable. He just elevates the drama and humour in any simple scene and makes it hilarious. Another aspect of the film i really loved is the Background music, a constant play of Orchestra music, So dramatic, the way it is used, it fills you with anxiety and tension. In the orchestra, how everything has to be absolutely perfect to carry that symphony, but here everything is falling apart in their marriage and its absolute chaos. It is extremely funny and extremely uncomfortable, and far deeper meaningful than I initially thought of, the way it explores the themes of about sex, marriage, and depression through witty conversations that It invites you into celebration of misery and have laugh at it, reflect on it.
