MAN OF CINEMA
Hitchcock's british film which caught Hollywood's eyes and opened their doors
for him. It was made in 1930s in a tiny, shabby and inadequate studio in Islington, london. There was no outside shooting. This film shows that technology is secondary, all you need is a tight screenplay, a competent cinematographer, a fine cast and a genius of a director.
At the beginning of the movie, it feels like light comedy but soon turns into a high tension thriller, then a mystery and then spy drama. and back again, creating one of his most entertaining mysteries of that time.
I've come to the conclusion that every mystery/thriller has been done by Hitchcock, Each revelation or twist in them is more insane than the last. You feel like you're going crazy with the protagonist. Splendid use of the same claustrophobic location. The setting, the story sets up a great mood.
Its a Classic Hitchcock mischief on a train. Sharp script, a touch of mystery, and a vanished old lady no one seems to remember. Charming, clever and quietly tense. British cinema at its wittiest.
