MAN OF CINEMA
Tale of queer resistance and struggle smeared into a folktale that beautifully
showcases the taboo, consequences, loneliness and the strength of being queer. It's a hilarious, painful, weird, tender and vibrant story that needs to be watched.
The story and screenplay is so strange and surreal that the shots and the world it creates feel both real and mythical. I loved how they metaphors the AIDS disease in a superstition of plague and folktale. Its such clever writing.
love transmits through each other's gaze, not just by looking, but seeing the ones we desire, even as that desire threatens to end us.
Here we see the loneliness, longing for love among villagers, but the men don't even try to look at the trans people fearing they might get infatuated by them and they will die by the plague(AIDS). Its beautiful presentation of perception, how the society see trans/queer people, how people hurt them in many ways.
Perception is our greatest source of connection, but it’s also the thing that can get us killed; if you’re queer or trans, that’s doubly true, given that those you desire could turn around and hurt you for loving them.
One thing that this movie really make us learn is the resilience, togetherness, care and social acceptance.
