Damn those eyes of Joan, they scared me to hell.
I have never seen such a brutal, painful and tear jerking performance without evening uttering a single dialogue. A story of Joan's shining and unbreakable courage and sacrifice for her country france. Her Faith was bigger than her fear of dying. A remarkable woman who stood true to her beliefs, a true patriot. This story and the movie are both historically significant and influential. Imagine in the era of 1430s a woman is leading a battalion in war against Englishmen, an era where women were nowhere to be seen near the battlefield and never cared for their beliefs and thoughts. But people of france still love this true patriot who did everything to save her country. And this movie is a rare gem, because it was censored and criticised for several reasons, and the original copies were burnt in the fire, and its only remaining original copy was rediscovered decades later. This movie is as rare as this true story of a remarkable woman. I just love the Cinematography of this movie, somehow you don't feel like you are watching a movie, the camera angles most of the time panning on character faces, bringing out real raw emotions on the screen like it's unfolding in front of your eyes. It's like a hard slap on people's faces who doubted and burned this true patriot. No one else has ever composed a frame and captured human beings emotions quite like Dreyer did in The Passion of Joan of Arc. It's really a true artistic achievement. A film that really makes cinema a beautiful form of art.
