When she meets a stranger with whom she develops that connection, she finds her lost self but also feels the guilt of cheating. David lean brilliantly shows this conflicting and erupting emotions of her through intense emotional scenes and cinematography. Even though the ending is not satisfying, the film still tells a gutsy story for the time it was set in(pre world war), where self liberation, acting on their feelings and emotionally independent themes were not really associated with the women. Its film of coming to terms by going through the pain of losing the connection which she knew that she was never going to have in her life because of her marriage.
