MAN OF CINEMA
Imagine making a neo realist nazi war drama just six months after World War II
ended. Rosellini creates a fictional yet compelling story of resistance and unity against fascism and nazi, which kind of provided an escapism to the audience who were victims of nazi oppression.
Rosellini projects one of the first bleakest war drama films ever, he was able to film Italy's bombed out buildings and ruins, using most basic lighting and handheld cinematography which just works so effectively, gives a feeling of documentary with melodrama.
Rosellini with this neo realist movie really provides an exemplary mode of cinematic creation for any filmmaker who wants to tell an honest story. He was really a pioneer of italian cinema, changed face of cinema forever.
