MAN OF CINEMA
Setting aside german Nazi atrocities, Rossellini creates a very humanist film
keeping innocent german citizens in the centre who were victims of their regime.
Events set straight after world war 2, where germany is completely in ruins, people starving to death. As the movie progresses it becomes more gritty , dark and disturbing at the end.
Rossellini in a way filters out people's anger and makes us feel compassion for the innocent people of germany who were victims too. Brilliantly captures lingering images of the ruined city and chaotic atmosphere.
It comes across as a real horror movie in the manner of a neo-realist film, where reality meets fiction.
