MAN OF CINEMA
Another brilliant neo realist film from italian cinema.
Carlo Battisti who played the main protagonist role is not an actor, how someone can give such a beautiful performance without any acting background.
It's a story of an old pensioner who is on the verge of poverty and is struggling to pay his debts and save his rented house. The storyline may seem simple but carries a powerful message which is only elevated by the brilliant performance and screenplay.
An old lonely man who doesn't want to lose his pride, dignity and embrace the shame, even when he is in the most desperate situation. It shows the harsh fact of old age in a brutal and realistic way. It just scares you and disturbs you deep down.
It is one of the best examples of Italian neo-realism and humanist cinema , it paints a touching portrait of age, poverty and simple lives in the post-war world, especially among old lonely folks struggling to stay alive in this dog eat dog world. It shows all this without any melodrama and theatrics. creates unforgettable characters in their pain.
