MAN OF CINEMA
A french neo noir crime thriller which encompasses less action but high on
intensity, style and engaging screenplay. For a movie about hitman, it is quiet and artistic in nature. That's what french cinema does to every genre.
If you watch this expecting a conventional noir, then don't. it actually offers less than usual. It neither has high melodrama or emotional stakes nor funny witty dialogues.
Le Samourai gives us a loner who never tells anyone anything, and in fact rarely says anything distinctive, and you might find it hard to care about the stakes of anything in the picture as a result. it's not a kind of crime thriller which makes you exhilarated or amaze you with action stunts. It's quite different and that's what makes it so good but can also bore you.
I really liked the portrayal of hitman, so much different from the mainstream and feel so genuine. A self isolated absolute loner who isn't psycho or driven by money, yet a very complex character to completely understand.
