MAN OF CINEMA
Mirror of memories which transcends through space and time and relive the
events that one got scarred by several things. As we grow very old and there is nothing to look for in the future, we dwell on our old memories, bitter or sweet, we want to live that faded childhood again with endless possibilities to write our own fate filled with happiness. Memories and dreams are magical, they die before you, Our memories will be the only possible thing that linger at the time of our death, it flashes in front of us like an old film, they can take you to places bisecting time and space. Tarkovsky with this idea created a beautiful dreamy sequence of his troubled childhood, his conflicts with his mother, hoping to turn those into better memories. It is kind of an autobiography of himself. It's a beautiful representation of memory and time flow. And in the background Arseny Tarkovsky reciting his own poems is like a mystical experience of beauty. The film is gorgeously shot and brilliantly paced and acted, but you will only understand the film deeply if you know Tarkovsky and his life very well, It's a very personal film, that's why most of us are not able to draw the meaning of many sequences because they're symbolic. But it's a privilege to witness his memories come to life in the most artistic way possible. Tarkovsky achieved with this film what the greatest poets achieve with their language, an emotion that can't really be described through words but it moves your unconscious soul and wakes it up.
