Two brothers who had the same childhood but both set out to have different
paths, one became gangster and another Police. The film was supposed to be quite balanced for both sides, showcasing the good vs bad. But i personally felt the story was more biased towards the Bachhan character. Maybe because his character was very well written compared to Shahi Kapoor's. I really liked the arc of his story, how they connect the dots and his ladder of life which he climbs. Till the second half it felt like Bacchan was the hero. I guess he is indeed. But that was the problem with me. Shashi Kapoor's character was poorly written. He is very educated but couldn't even land a small sales man job in a product store. But one day he suddenly cracked a competitive exam and became a police officer in one day. It was very convenient and I felt hurried, because they wanted to land him against his own brother soon. I think instead if the character was already established as police from the beginning then it would have been better? Seeing the cat and mouse chase between two brothers. The screenplay by the duo Salim-Javed is surely interesting and the emotional angles do play a part. But the character arcs were loose, especially ravi. Still a classic story of action, drama, and emotion which will be remembered for its dialogues and scenes.
