An anti-war film which focuses more on human traits rather than its message.
How a human can be compassionate and yet can be selfish, can be a friend and also can betray. An enthralling drama that starts as two partisans surviving death freezing cold, but later the movie turns into great drama showcasing grey characters and the morality of human being under dire situation. Shepitko excels in conveying hard unflinching morality and great despair. The film doesn't compromise showing the cruelties of war and inhumanity, but it's not a hard watch, but it's an essential watch.

The plot takes place at the backdrop of world war 2 through soviet pov so
obviously this was a bit overdramatic in some places nevertheless very humane , shot in the wintry b&w
