Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters

novels makes this autobiography a unique watch which showcases mishima's life through his artistic thoughts and works as well as his ideologies in real life. Three aspects on which mishima was really obsessed with were Beauty, Art, and Action, and we see different segments in the film associated with these themes. I really liked this highly stylized drama which jumped back and forth between his novel scenes and his real life, both in different colour grading. Very experimental but also highly expressive, for the audience it kind of merges both fiction and reality. Schrader beautifully showcases mishima's drastic differences between his art and Ideology, and his cynicism towards the end.
