Bokshi

Indian cinema for the past few years, until we got to watch Bokshi, A folk horror Fantasy that might just be the return to horror that had seen a vacuum ever since Tumbbad, “History is like gravity, a force of nature, weighing down on us” utters the History Teacher, challenging the narrative perpetrated by the masses in subjugation of the lost. Bokshi tells the tale of an unconventional school excursion to a mysterious prehistoric site led by their history teacher who might have ulterior motives for a few girls in the group, forming only part of the central narrative that surrounds a troubled end to a relationship between a mother and daughter. This journey to the site and an internal longing for answers clubbed with a journey that questions one’s beliefs, one’s ideals, one’s truth and a journey of life which is labyrinthine in itself is where the crux of the narrative lies.
