Long Live Cinema
In an increasingly connected world where even our smallest interactions occur
on smartphones through platforms like Instagram, it's fitting to discuss this Indian film that is told entirely through screens—a format now known as "Screenlife." This approach is a testament to the evolution of our consumption and communication habits.
CTRL directed by Vikram Motwane brilliantly and subtly incorporates the creepy nature of AI through Nella's interactions. If you don’t know her, that’s okay because the AI knows everything about her life that she never even revealed, yet she ignores this intrusion despite finding it weird—a common human tendency. This subtle hint at AI snooping is perhaps the scariest part of the film, as it reflects a major problem in all our lives that we tend to overlook. It's reminiscent of seeing ads for something we were just talking about, making a meta-commentary on our behavior.
CTRL uses the Screenlife format by taking full advantage of the screens and cameras that constantly surround us, recording our every action. This innovative approach to storytelling effectively captures the essence of modern digital life.
